When actor, writer and comedy legend Celeste Barber approached us to style a very special birthday celebration by the sea, we were (obviously) beyond excited. Recommended to us by our dear friends at Spell, Celeste wanted to create a relaxed, bohemian-inspired picnic overlooking the ocean for her sister Olivia’s 40th birthday. 

Our brief was luxe yet low-key, with a focus on creating a warm, intimate and comfortable space for a leisurely long lunch. Set in prime position atop Duranbah Hill in Coolangatta with a backdrop of crystal blue waters, we styled a beautiful grazing feast using a soft, feminine palette of dusty pinks, blush and terracotta.

Low timber tables were surrounded by patterned rugs, leather ottomans and textured cushions from our boutique hire range, while oversized grazing platters were brimming with colourful fresh produce, artisan cheeses and sweet treats. Statement gold vases filled with fluffy garden roses and simple foliage details completed the look, along with the dreamiest birthday cake topped with pink sugar shards and turkish delight – the perfect spring party for a beautiful group of friends and family.

We adored every moment of bringing this sweet 40th celebration to life, from working alongside the uber-lovely Celeste to seeing everything come to fruition on the day with an a-team of vendors on board.
