Claudia and Paulie’s modern romantic Byron Bay wedding was memorable for so many reasons. Not only were these two the sweetest, most laid-back couple; but the day itself was an absolute whirlwind, taking place at The Orchard Estate in the midst of the NSW fires.
Battling crazy conditions including blistering heat, smoke and wind, we spent the week monitoring nearby fires, preparing evacuation plans and considering alternative venues – but with an incredible team (and an uber-chilled couple) on board, we were able to pull together a seamless celebration with just a few last-minute changes.
Claudia and Paulie wanted to design a personalised day that reflected them as a couple, and allowed us to run wild with creative styling to achieve their vision. Along with being massive foodies, these two also shared a serious love of travel and wanted to incorporate both passions into their wedding. We drew inspiration from some of their favourite holiday destinations including Barcelona, Capri and Positano, curating each element of their day to embody these different locations.
Following an intimate ceremony in the orchard against a canopy of macadamia trees and speckled sunlight, we executed our plan B for cocktail hour with a modern luxe setup inside the light-filled barn. Bringing the European summer vibes indoors, we incorporated red and white striped umbrellas, Aperol spritz stations, mezze platters and bold pops of tangerine, peach and blush to create a fun, vibrant setting.
Outside on the lawn, we styled a clear marquee looking out over the hinterland and valley. Using a crisp white-on-white palette, we paired elegant bentwood chairs with floor-length linens, contrasted against dusty pink flower clouds, dried foliage installations and black wicker pendants. Tablescapes were curated with earthy ceramic plates, gold and white flatware, soft linen napkins and minimal stationery, ready for guests to enjoy dinner under the stars.
We’ll forever look back on this day and remember how our amazing team of vendors pulled together to create something seriously beautiful against the craziest of conditions.
