Festival Romance – Kim + Gabe – Forget Me Not Wedding

If we had to sum up Kim and Gabe’s beautiful Byron Bay wedding, contagiously joyful would be a pretty perfect sentiment.

Our uber cool and quirky Melbourne-based couple were envisaging a less-traditional Jewish wedding for their epic celebration in the Byron hinterland. Being huge festival lovers themselves, Kim and Gabe wanted to create a fun, festival-inspired wedding filled with eclectic details, layered natural textures and rich hues of earthy colour.

Taking place at a secluded private venue in Coopers Shoot with nearly 300 guests, we set out to plan the ultimate wedding festival to remember for Kim and Gabe, while still ensuring we stayed true to their traditional Jewish customs.

Following a sweet veiling ceremony at Elements of Byron, guests made their way to an intimate outdoor setting by the lake, framed by a timber and macrame chuppah. With our bride in the prettiest Spell lace duster and our groom absolutely rocking a fedora, Kim and Gabe tied the knot surrounded by their loved ones, drenched in perfect afternoon sunlight.

In one of our favourite moments from the day, Kim and Gabe’s band began to play immediately after the ceremony, as all 270 guests entered the reception tent for a traditional hora dance to celebrate the newlyweds. If you can imagine nearly 300 people, both young and old, absolutely bursting with love, laughter and joy – the atmosphere inside the tent was truly electric, and the perfect way to kick off the evening’s festivities.

Outside on the lawn, we kept reception styling natural, earthy and eclectic, using a mix of boho-inspired elements, unstructured florals and mixed materials. Underneath a naked tipi adorned with sheets of lace and macrame, giant tufts of pampas grass spilled from woven baskets, with low tables set on layered rugs in rich tones of terracotta, burgundy and mauve.

We focused on textural elements throughout the styling, with ornate Moroccan lanterns contrasting against leather ottomans, rattan lounges and a delicate shell chandelier. Long timber tables were paired with wooden bench seats and bamboo chairs, sitting underneath market umbrellas and festoon strings for an authentic festival feel. Native florals and scattered candles completed the look, with guests sipping Aperol spritz and enjoying canapes around the fire as the sun set over the hinterland.
